Description

The 1987 World Sportscar Championship got off to a thrilling start at Jarama in Spain, with the top contenders fighting all the way to the finish. Throughout 109 strength-sapping laps the action was hot, with Tom Walkinshaw's seven-litre Silk Cut Jaguar XJR-8s battling it out with the much-fancied Porsches. Champion Derek Bell (Rothmans-Porsche 962) had his work cut out to retain his title in 1987. John Watson had the big Jaguar going well, ably backed up by Jan Lammers. The other British entry was in the hands of Eddie Cheever, co-driven by Raul Boesel. Highlights from two-and-a-half hours' sizzling circuitry is finely captured in this record of what became a fascinating season of racing.
